I had a very enlightening visit with, District 186 legendary educator, Elbert Betts, his staff and the hard working SPS186 students at the NAACP Alternative Program yesterday. I would like thank him for welcoming me and providing the Springfield Eduction Association further insight into the world of alternative education and an increasing population of Springfield’s students. I am firmly convinced that this program (and other alternative education programs in our district) are firmly committed and are changing the lives of youth each and every day.
If you doubt this post, I was lucky enough to run into two past students of mine. They were working so diligently there and looked very happy, working quietly in their professional attire. As I waved at them on my way out, all I could think was, “How can we replicate this success for our struggling student population?” and, “Where are our next Elbert Betts???”
